The Real Amount
From The Current Encyclopedia
The Real Amount is a novel by Elias Wrenfield and the fourth book of The Current series. It is a love story about influence and consent, told by Marie Armstrong, who reads people for a living.
Premise
Before her firm buys a company, Marie sits across from the people who run it and works out whether they are telling the truth. She listens under what people say for a note, the way she once listened to an A string a hair flat. Halcyon Bio feels like nothing at all, except in the kitchen on four, where she laughs at a pompous coffee machine and a sad man in a gray suit tells her it wants you to hate it first. When he finally tells her what he can do to a room, she makes one rule: he never does it to her.
