Nineteen Ninety-Eight
From The Current Encyclopedia
Nineteen Ninety-Eight is a novel by Elias Wrenfield and the fifth book of The Current series. It is the origin of Alexander Milcovich, the man in Books 1 to 4 who hasn't been tired since 1998.
Premise
Sasha Milcovich is twenty-five, a polymer chemist and the only person in his research group who still laughs. He laughs at the vending machine that eats his quarters, and the corridor gets warmer. His advisor, Harold Garrity, has never once been seen to look tired. Late at night he pulls up the cracked stool beside Sasha's bench and watches him work. Then Sasha's sister Nadia calls at 1:20 in the morning about bruises she can't explain, and Sasha is her match. His father gives him one piece of advice: keep some.
